28 August 2025, Amsterdam – Of all generations, Gen Z is most likely to leave their current job within six months (49%). This is according to ManpowerGroup NetherlandsGlobal Talent Barometer, conducted among 13,000 employees worldwide, including 478 from the Netherlands. Among other things, the survey asked about employee job satisfaction. This has fallen most sharply among Gen Z: by five percentage points compared to 2024, to 45 per cent.

Managers fear staff departures

Not only Gen Z, but also employees who are required to work on site expect to resign from their jobs within six months at an above-average rate (68%). A third of managers in the Netherlands also lack certainty about keeping their own jobs: they fear job losses in the coming six months. Most managers (68%) see economic instability, restructuring and AI as the biggest threats to their careers.

Outstanding performer in Europe

Compared to other European countries, the Netherlands scores highest in terms of job satisfaction: 67 per cent of employees say they are satisfied. This is partly because 72 per cent say they have a reliable manager and 69 per cent feel that their job is secure for the next six months.

Andre Secrest, Managing Director at ManpowerGroup Netherlands: “The declining job satisfaction among Gen Z clearly shows that they have different expectations than previous generations. They are not only looking for security, but also for meaningful work, flexibility and opportunities for development. As soon as these types of employment conditions are lacking, they change jobs. Talk to them, but also to employees from other generations, about what they find important and what could be improved in their job or working environment. Try to respond to this as much as possible, for example by offering training or more flexible working hours. In addition, ensure that they can develop their curiosity by offering new and appropriate challenges. After a few months, evaluate the effect on job satisfaction. Retaining and keeping young talent is crucial for the future.
